Education Excellence Program

(A promising initiative to improve education standard of weaker students)

Education is the mainstay of all developed Nation, community or society. India is a developing country and to become a developed country, our education system should be streamlined and 100% education is the need of the hour. In particular Odisha is a comparatively poor state and one of the primary reasons is education. In the twenty first century while human being has discovered provision to stay in Mars, education has been considered as a basic need like food, clothing and shelter. Tribal children have very low level of participation. Though the progress has started initiating in the tribal regions across India, however the progress rate has been slow. If the government does not take a definite measure for the tribal education, the status of the education among tribal communities will be a story of distress, despair and death.

Therefore, for an inclusive growth of the nation, the time has arrived to think about the growth of the tribes, considering the development of education of the tribes. Immediate actions needed by the government to ensure and address this problem. There should be specific allocation of budget by both state and central governments. A proper monitoring mechanic should be in place to get the interventions implemented properly to bring the tribal children to the mainstream of socioeconomic development.
The secondary data shows that, the literacy ratio of Jajpur district is 72.12%. The literacy ratio of Danagadi block is less in compared to other blocks i.e. 59.36%. In this block, the SC Population is 23462 and ST population is 29293 out of the total population of 104 116.

It indicates the poor literacy rate in this block compared to other blocks. The literacy ratio of tribal belt GPs are below double digit. The dropout rate of students in these areas is very alarming compared to other mainstream regions. The dropout rate of students in these areas is very alarming compared to other mainstream regions. The reasons of dropout are primarily lack of awareness of parents, The reasons of dropout are primarily lack of awareness of parents, low socio-economic status, and education standard of the students. For the livelihood of the poor people, school going students are accompanying their parents to sell local alcohol i.e. Handia or Lossi. These traditional beverages are most commonly used alcohol in every village of the tribal communities. The unawareness of the parents on education and the low level economic condition drive their children away from education and start their traditional business through selling of Handia (Local liquor).

This forces them to be far away from primary education.Higher education is a day dream for them. The level of acceptance of education has been very low.Students of high school level do not know the basic stuffs like alphabet, addition, subtraction etc. To strengthen their basic education level and build up quality education in the primary level, a properlymethodologies should be implemented. Due to backward financial condition private coaching is not possible for them. Hence the education level of these children degrades and as a result they leave the school to avoid these embarrassing situations.Though Government has opened several schools and provide them mid-day meal to encourage children to come to school, however due to failure of proper implementation of the program, this scheme has not attracted or accepted by the children to improve dropout rate.

About Project

Education is the key to the tribal development. Tribal children have very low levels of participation and performance. If Govt./Civil society/Corporate sector does not take some radical measures for the development of tribal education. The status of education among tribes will be a story of distress, despair and death. Hence time has come to think it seriously about tribes and SC communities’ education and inclusive growth. So, there is an urgent need for various Government interventions, planners and policy makers to address this problem.
Easy access and more opportunities should be provided to the SC/tribal children in order to bring them to the mainstream of education & economic development.
We had started the program in November 2015 in pilot basis. Then we completed 1st phase program from April 2016 to March 2017, 2nd phase program from April 2017 to March 2018 and the 3rd phase is in progress from April 2018 till date. The program is continuing now as a model program to improve the quality of education through special coaching in Math, Science & English of SC/ST & other backward/weak students of Danagadi Block.

Parents Counselling Meeting

The parents in the tribal belts are mostly illiterates and depend on daily wages for their livelihood. Hence they are not aware of the benefits of education. However for the career building of a child depends on the awareness of his/her parents. In general, if parents get involved in order to monitor the progress of their children, then children will be more attentive in their studies. In particular if a mother gets involved in the monitoring process entire family will be benefitted from all aspects including the studies of the children. We have tried to involve more women parents in the parents counselling meetings to sensitize them and bring them to the thought process of mainstream societies. We have been conducting frequent parents counselling program in centre level, village level and community level to have a better impact of the intervention.Door to door visit to

sensitize the parents those are unable to attend the village level or centre level parents counselling programs. In order to ensure 100% participation of parents, primarily mothers of the students are the target parents in the door to door campaign.

Science Exhibition
