Plantation

Global warming is a very thoughtful concern worldwide. The reason of this is deforestation. The rate of deforestation is very high. Globally, forest cover has declined by one-third compared to what it was there and global deforestation continues at eighteen million hectares per year. This indiscriminate felling of trees, needs to be undertaken on a large scale to reverse the negative effects of deforestation and restore the ecological balance runs tree plantation campaigns across its projects on an annual basis. In particular, Odisha being a state in the eastern coast of India, is very much prone to cyclones and other natural calamities such as flood, drought, etc. A large number of trees get uprooted by the effect of these calamities. In order to counter the negative effects of deforestation, afforestation or plantation in large number is the need of the hour.

The intervention has been designed to plant trees across the regions identified as mentioned in the subsequent sections. The Amazon rain forest provides approximately 6% oxygen to the world alone, it is known as the lungs of the world. This tropical forest covers 55 lakh square kilometer region in Amazon basin of South America. Unfortunately in this current year, the number of fire has been increased multifold by 84%. This has impacted 21 thousand square miles deforestation, causing a huge negative impact on global ecological balance. In general, every year due to natural calamities millions of trees get uprooted. In particular, in the current year, 10 Million trees uprooted by the effect of super cyclone Fani which occurred in the month of May’2019. As per a survey conducted, forest officials said that recurring storms in 1999, 2013, 2014, 2018 and now in 2019, the state's forest and green cover severely affected. In 2013 Phailin, Odisha lost around 1.2 million trees in Berhampur forest circle alone.
