Cultural Enhancement

Odisha is a state of culture and heritage. The existing musical tradition of Odisha is the cumulative experience of the past 2500 years. Music owes its existence to the cultural traditions that grew around the temples. Even in modern times, the traditional songs and dances of the state have lost not their importance. Odissi, the traditional classical dance form of Orissa originated in the ‘Devadasi’ cult, wherein young women were ‘married’ to gods and remained in the service of the temple, worshipping their lord and master through this lyrical form of dance. This subtle dance form epitomises Indian femininity at its most sensuous. Independence brought a major change in official attitudes toward Indian Dance. Like the other classical arts, dance was seen as a way to define India’s national identity.

Governmental and non-governmental patronage increased. The government came to realize the role of cultural heritage in creating a national identity. A number of people and experts took initiatives for the reconstruction and popularization of Odissi dance. There are a number of characteristics of the Odissi dance. The themes of Odissi are almost exclusively religious in nature. The most commonly revolve around Krishna. Although the worship of Krishna is found throughout India, there are local themes that are emphasized. The Ashtapadis of Jayadev are a very common theme.
In addition to the classical song and dance, in the twenty-first century, there are quite a few scopes in the modern music industry for building career and livelihood. These scopes are easily accessible to the people living in urban or semi-urban areas.

There should be a process to map the talents from remote village areas. The government has failed in doing so. Therefore, for the inclusive growth of the nation, the time has arrived to think about the involvement of the village talents to build a stronger music industry and developed nation. The proposed project aims at providing musical (Song & Dance) training to the hidden talents of the remote areas of Kalinganagar area. The proposed training programme has been planned to be implemented by the expert teachers with cutting-edge teaching methodologies which accurately aiming in realization of knowledge by doing research. The proposed project would be implemented in Kalinganagar and its neighboring tribal populated areas in Jajpur district of Odisha. In ntervention with latest classical and modern courses, using technology and cutting-edge teaching model are focus strategies of this project with setting objectives as such to provide quality training so that the beneficiaries will be competent enough to participate in state level musical competitions.
